A painless way to read and annotate journal articles

I am much more comfortable reading a book or my Kindle than trying to read long pieces on my laptop. When it comes to journal articles, you might think there is no alternative. But there is. I don’t know whether everyone already does what I’m describing here, but perhaps it will help a few people. There are two stages: first, transferring the journal article to the Kindle; and second, transferring the notes and highlights made on the Kindle back onto your laptop for integration with the rest of your work. Neither stage is complicated, but nor are they particularly intuitive. I am using a MacBook, so the details may be slightly different on a Windows computer. You start by accessing the journal article on your laptop, and then do this:  Download the article, preferably as a PDF - but other formats will also work.
